Yesterday I had a wonderful visit with Marc. Our visits are almost always positive and enjoyable, save for a few times when the stress of the situation made one or both of us sensitive and emotional. Prison is a very difficult place to be, and Marc remains as positive as he can. Seeing each other is the highlight of our lives and keeps us both going.

On Friday, September 10th, my husband Marc Emery was sentenced to five years in US federal prison for selling cannabis seeds through the mail to Americans from Canada. Marc had agreed to a five-year sentence in his plea deal, knowing that going to trial would result in 30 years to life behind bars.

Marc decided to write the complete story of his status as a political prisoner in the US federal prison system: what he does, what it's like, his future prospects at Sea-Tac Federal Detention Center in Seattle and wherever he gets sent after sentencing, and the process of returning to Canada.

Today I got photos from Marc in prison! They were taken during our visit on July 4th, when inmates can buy photographs of themselves with family. We had to choose one of four painted walls as the backdrop, so we picked the Seattle skyline at night.

I received a note on my Facebook wall from Mark Radford in Ontario, alerting me to the fact that Public Safety Minister Vic Toews, the man who will decide if Marc can serve his sentence in Canada, was having a meet-and-greet in Toronto on Tuesday, July 27th. It was the perfect opportunity to ask Vic Toews about Marc!

The long-standing Hawaii THC Ministry's Rev. Roger Christie was refused bail after being arrested for 100 plants. The U.S. Attorney stated that he is a threat to society because "Mr. Christie listens to no one but himself, that's why he is a danger to the community".

Since the Regulate, Control, and Tax Cannabis Initiative was mercifully truncated to a headline-friendly “Prop 19? by virtue of making it on the California ballot, I have been tracking on our NORML Stash Blog the stories of dispensary owners who are publicly opposing the legalization of the product they sell, even shelling out money they’ve made from selling marijuana to oppose its legalization!

Today is Independence Day in America, and as I sit in my hotel room in SeaTac (outside of Seattle, Washington), listening to non-stop explosions and firecrackers going off outside in celebration of "independence" and "freedom", I am saddened to think that one out of every 100 Americans are imprisoned and my Canadian husband Marc Emery is among them.

I went to visit Marc today for the first time at SeaTac FDC. Thankfully, I'm able to visit him even while he’s in SHU (“segregated housing unit”, solitary confinement). When I arrived at 1:30pm, it was very nerve-racking. I stepped up to the massive building's entrance, got buzzed in, then found myself in a big lobby with a reflective glass booth and a little hole to pass ID and paperwork through.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s former communications director made a “cruel and disgusting” comment about her husband and should apologize, said the wife of B.C.’s “Prince of Pot” yesterday. Kory Teneycke, now a vice-president with Quebecor Media, tweeted on May 14 that he hopes “Marc Emery enjoys group showers as much as he enjoys pot. Three cheers for the DEA.”
