One of the witnesses heard during Ontario Superior Court hearings on rules governing the use of medical marijuana, a 55 year-old sufferer of multiple sclerosis, testified that when she asked her doctor to approve her application to use marijuana to relieve her chronic pain, the doctor put her hands over her ears and went, "La, la, la, la. I can't hear you."

The federal government claims that its omnibus crime law, and particularly the mandatory sentences imposed on drug crimes, will target serious organized criminals. This is hogwash; the law will create all manner of injustices. Here’s one example.

Today is November 1, 980 days to go till my release on July 9, 2014. There are two possible hopeful scenarios that could shorten that wait. One is the petition to "Pardon Marc Emery" which appears at www.WhiteHouse.gov in the "We The People" section. On September 22, that petition initiative website was launched and any petition that obtained 5,000 signatures within 30 days was promised a response from the White House.
