This Weekend: The Kush Cup and Health Expo at the Vancouver PNE

CANNABIS CULTURE – The Vancouver Pacific National Exhibition will be the epicentre of marijuana medicine when The Health Expo and Kush Cup, an alternative health and medpot-focused tradeshow and strain contest, hit town from June 28-30.

In the wake of successful global cannabis tradeshows like Spannabis and International Cannabis and Hemp Expo, and the Treating Yourself Expo in Toronto, the Vancouver Health Expo is expected to feature many of the same elements that make the others great, plus a whole lot more.

Last year, marijuana chronnoisseurs attended the first-annual Kush Cup in Vancouver, founded and organized by iMedikate med-pot dispensary operator Mark Klokeid – also known as TheWeedGuy on Pot TV.

This year, Klokeid and his partners have expanded the event considerably and secured the Vancouver PNE grounds, one of the city’s most popular venues, as their home-base.

The Vancouver Health Expo

As part of the expansion, organizers have developed The Vancouver Health Expo, a tradeshow and exhibition focused on alternative health and medical marijuana.

The Expo developed “through negotiations with the PNE,” Klokeid told Cannabis Culture, “and they have been really awesome at understanding our concept.”

Vendors from the health and marijuana communities will join forces to present over 80 booths and displays. Mainstream sponsors like Dr. Scholl’s foot care and Rock Star energy drinks will share floor space with marijuana majors like RooR, Green Planet and many others.

“The idea is that we have people going to Playland come into an environment where they can enjoy themselves at a Health Expo and learn about cannabis,” Klokeid said.

Expo speakers and presenters include health professionals like medical marijuana advocates Dr. David Allen and Dr. William Courtney, Kinesiologist Jas Johal, and national radio hosts The Wise Quacks

Klokeid said the Expo will feature cooking displays, wellness exhibits and a series of art and literature exhibits, as well as “a heavy educational component for the advocacy of medical marijuana.”

Sensory deprivation tanks and other alternative health product exhibits will be on site, as well as a live glass-blowing demonstration by bong-wizard Redbeard and an air-conditioned vapor lounge powered by Sublimator.

Ready-to-hot-box limo buses, equipped with vaporizers, will be waiting outside the PNE gates to shuttle tickets-holders to evening events as part of the Kush Cup, a medical marijuana strain-judging contest and live music and comedy festival.

The Kush Cup

After a successful first year in 2012, the Kush Cup is back with an even bigger lineup of musical and comedy guests.

Hosted by Dave Warden of The Weed Report, the Kush Cup boasts over 15 indica and sativa strains of top-quality marijuana and a selection of extracts to be judged by holders of a $250 judge’s pass.

Judges packages include 1-gram samples of each variety and a backpack filled with additional gifts and prizes (over $20,000-worth total, according to Klokeid).

And then there’s the entertainment:

On Friday night, local musical favorites Daniel Wesley and Mike Dundas take the stage.

Saturday is comedy night featuring Charlie Murphy, known for the hilarious “Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories” from the Dave Chappelle show. Trailer Park Boys Randy and Lahey (actors Patrick Roach and John Dunsworth) will also be part of the fun.

Sunday night is the grand finale featuring B-Real of hip-hop supergroup Cypress Hill, Juno-award winning crew The Rascalz, and Vancouver rapper Cityreal.

The ganj-fueled festivities will be rounded out with two – yes two! – 420-friendly boat cruises around the Vancouver harbor – one featuring B-real as ship’s DJ.

Klokeid has achieved notable success in securing mainstream media support from major brands and artists, as well as 99.3 The Fox and Rock 101, two of the city’s most popular radio stations, and he hopes this will help spread the message and sell tickets.

Tickets to the Health Expo are available at the PNE for $10 per day or $25 for a weekend pass.

Tickets to the Kush Cup are available through clubZone and and cost $250 for a judge’s pass, $100 for a day pass, and $50 for evening events. Use the code “imed” on Clubzone to receive a 50% discount on evening events.
