Duelling Perspectives on Religious Schools
Friday, November 6 2009This letter I wrote about funding for religious schools was published in the Vancouver Sun.
Re: Should the public fund religious schools?, Oct. 31
The question posed by columnist Douglas Todd -- Should the public fund religious schools?"-- is the wrong question and leads to false conclusions.
The questions ought to be, Should parents be able to send children to a school of their choosing with the money the government seizes as taxation? And why is government running any school system?
Let parents direct the money they earn to a quality school in an independent educational marketplace and end the government tax-monopoly.

Nowhere Man
Wednesday, October 14 2009Here is a poem I wrote from my prison cell.
Nowhere Man (With apologies to Lennon and McCartney)
Imagine life without cannabis,
that's life here.
Imagine life without music,
that's life here.
Imagine life without fresh food,
that's life here.
Imagine life without any privacy,
that's life here.
Imagine life without any sex,
that's life here.
Imagine life in only red pants and a red shirt,
that's life here.
Imagine life in a 8 by 10 foot concrete cell,
that's life here.
Imagine never touching the sun's rays,
that's life here.
Imagine life without being with any one you know,
that's life here.
Imagine being hungry every waking hour,
that's life here.
Imagine life without love,
that's life here.
Imagine never seeing a grape or a peach or a tomato,
that's life here.
Imagine changing linens threadbare once every ten days,
that's life here.
Imagine your happy memories gradually fading away,
that's life here.

No Tax for Pan Am
Tuesday, September 22 2009This video by Paul McKeever is about some of my early activism from 1982 to 1986. Please ignore the 80's hair.
This covers a protest I sank thousands of hours into over four years, plus $15,000 to put out leaflets and hand deliver them myself every night for over a year. This was before the internet so you had to go door-to-door and do it physically, one house at a time. I delivered 35,000 pamphlets myself in 1983.
Here's what McKeever says about the video:
The City of Toronto is one of three cities bidding to host the 2015 Pan Am Games. The projected cost of its proposal is $1.77 billion. According to the plan, the lion's share of that money will be tax revenues collected by the governments of Toronto, Ontario, and Canada. In 1985, Freedom Party of Ontario, together with its then Action Director, Marc Emery, commenced a No Tax for Pan Am campaign against London Ontario's bid to host the 1991 Pan Am games using approximately $100M of tax revenue from the governments of London, Ontario, and Canada. The result: VICTORY. Londoners, and all other Canadians, were spared the burden of approximately $100 M. This video will show you how it was done, and give you the knowledge, and the hope, to prevent $1.77 billion in tax revenues from being spent on the Pan Am Games leading up to 2015.

Help us create FREE MARC EMERY logos, designs & illustrations
Sunday, August 30 2009
I want YOU to design & submit FREE MARC EMERY illustrations or designs for use on T-Shirts, stencils, stickers, and banners.
Use any photographs in my facebook.com/marcemery or cannabisculture.com and give it a shot. We want to produce our own T-shirts and stuff, but we want all designs to be downloadable so anyone can make T-shirts, stencils, stickers and other communication motifs and distribute them all over.
I'd like to have a page of down-loadable designs for anyone to make t-shirts for themselves, to sell, or to give away, whatever, just to get a lot of people getting the word out there in a variety of messages and styles. But I would love it if we had several designs, eventually dozens, that in some way say Free Marc Emery, so people can make their own stencils and then paint/chalk/ Free Marc Emery on Construction Walls, sidewalks, etc. and make T-shirts with FME on them to sell at festivals and rallies and hemp stores.
Send them to JodieEmery@gmail.com
