The Mexican drug war that has largely been defined by violence along the border is intensifying in interior and southern areas once thought clear of the carnage, broadening a conflict that has already overwhelmed the authorities and dispirited the public, according to analysts and new government data.

In March 2006, former Victoria mayor Alan Lowe wrote to Tony Clement, then federal health minister, asking him to immediately review Canada's medical marijuana regulations "to determine where improvements can be made to ensure a better quality of life for those Canadians in need of medical assistance."
Activism

The Liberal Party over the weekend voted to “legalize and regulate” the selling of marijuana. This issue has the potential to breathe life back into the Liberals if they approach it the right way. As it stands now the party’s best chance of regaining at least second place is by putting the marijuana issue front and centre.
