Tennessee Congressman Steven Cohen (D) urged Gil Kerlikowske, the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, to reclassify marijuana as a Schedule V substance in a letter sent Monday.
“How can we imagine that a dangerous, illegal drug like marijuana should be voted on by the people? That’s not how we do medicine in this country.” Those words, spoken by a federal drug-control official, are emblematic of the contempt Washington has for the common man.
While there is a constant buzz of cannabis law reform these days in America, largely at the local and state level, unfortunately these strong winds of change do not largely penetrate the Capital Beltway.
