Ontario’s highest court will review a landmark decision in November which deals with Canada’s troubled medical marijuana program and the legalization of the production and possession of pot.

The federal government received a small reprieve on 90 day marijuana legalization deadline until their appeal could be heard. In exchange for granting their time out, the justice gave them only six months to prepare their appeal. We’ll be back in court in November, instead of the usual 18 months it takes to have an appeal heard.

On Wednesday June 22 prosecutors will seek to delay the 90 day marijuana legalization ruling via an interoloctory hearing at Ontario Court of Appeal (130 Queen St. West) 10 a.m. The deadline stoppage would last until court of appeal has rendered its decision. This is not the appeal of R v. Mernagh, but a hearing specifically for deadline stoppage.

CANNABIS CULTURE - An official at Health Canada says the agency is planning on getting out of the medical marijuana business completely. Cannabis constitutional challenger Matt Mernagh is issuing a toking vs. drinking challenge to Liberal leader Micheal Ignatieff. Mernagh, a medical marijuana patient at the heart of Ontario court ruling striking down possession and cultivation, who becomes functional after inhaling, will smoke two joints for every glass of wine Iggy guzzles. The Liberal leader has been making serious boneheaded comments regarding cannabis on the campaign trail. Most recently in Sault St. Marie where he suggested students take up wine drinking not inhaling.
