A retired judge proposes legalizing and regulating drugs, says government plans to put more police officers on the ground won’t lessen the danger to ordinary citizens

WASHINGTON, Feb. 2 (UPI) – Mexican drug cartels are increasingly active inside the United States, producing homegrown marijuana and gaining new urban footholds, officials say.

In 'jury nullification', a jury in a criminal case effectively nullifies a law by acquitting a defendant regardless of the weight of evidence against him or her. Until our national politicians show some backbone on the issue of marijuana law reform, it's one of the only ways to avoid imposing hideously cruel "mandatory minimum" penalties on marijuana users who don't deserve to go to prison.

LA PAZ, Bolivia, Jan 29, 2009 (UPI via COMTEX) - The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has removed all its agents from Bolivia, complying with orders by President Evo Morales, officials said.

Aside from the intrinsic dangers and injustices of arguing for immunity for high-level government officials who commit felonies (such as illegal eavesdropping, obstruction of justice, torture and other war crimes), it's the total selectivity of the rationale underlying that case which makes it so corrupt.
