A medical marijuana advocacy group has sued the U.S. attorney general and the top federal prosecutor in Northern California, asking a federal court to halt recent raids and threats of prosecution that have significantly stepped up the Obama administration’s assault on the state’s 15-year-old program.
“Did anyone bring the beer?” quipped U.S. Attorney’s spokesman Thom Mrozek just before an L.A. press conference announcing a major crackdown on medical marijuana dispensaries.
A new directive from the federal government’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives concerning the rights of medical marijuana patients to own or possess firearms runs contrary to state and federal law and should not be enforced, Montana Attorney General Steve Bullock told the U.S. Justice Department Monday.
