Ink Ribbon Foundation – Cannabis and Breast Cancer Awareness Month

CANNABIS CULTURE – I lost my mom to breast cancer, so in a way I had been waiting my entire life to be diagnosed. When it happened in the summer of 2012, I was the same age that my mother had been when she passed away and while I was devastated, I was also prepared.

In selecting my course of treatment, I chose to have a bilateral mastectomy followed by tissue expanders and implants. I have gone through multiple surgeries since then to relieve my chest pain, which has included changing out my implants and removing any breast tissue that remained.

Aware of the addiction risks associated with using opioids, I didn’t want to continue taking my prescribed medications and asked my doctor about other treatment options. He recommended using a synthetic form of THC to help with my pain and soon after I started taking it my quality of life improved dramatically. I wanted to share my experience to help others and my husband suggested that I become involved in the cannabis industry. So, when a position opened as a patient advisor at The+Source, I knew it was the perfect fit. I use my platform, now as assistant general manager, to educate the community about breast cancer awareness and my experience with a variety of medical products.

One thing I love about The+Source is that the company is always looking for ways to give back to the community, particularly causes related to cancer. This month, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The+Source will be supporting the Ink Ribbon Foundation. The Ink Ribbon Foundation is dedicated to helping breast cancer survivors heal through beautiful scar cover-up tattoos in order to instill confidence in breast cancer survivors. Recipients receive private design consultations and may select the tattoo of their choice, later followed by a professional photoshoot reveal if they so choose.

Every day, I see my scars. They are a constant reminder that make me miss my mother, reevaluate my life and the lives of my daughters. I have a pink ribbon tattoo on my hand – which is an incredible conversation-starter. So many people in my personal and professional lives have shared stories with me, either about themselves or a loved one.

Throughout the month of October, The+Source is going pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month by donating proceeds of pink Moxie vape batteries to the Ink Ribbon Foundation. I’m fortunate to work with a company passionate about education, community and accessibility and encourage your support.
