Merged Medical Marijuana System Could Leave Patients ‘Vulnerable’: Advocate

A separate medical cannabis system must remain in place to protect patient access and proper treatment after recreational sales of the drug are legal, argues a local advocate.

Steven Stairs said medical marijuana users in Manitoba are especially vulnerable to seeing their access to that medication reduced, should medical and recreational pot be merged into one system of rules and regulations.

“With medical cannabis, having separate categories for it allows for certain protections,” said Stairs. “There are all these different layers … out there to benefit the idea of separating the two.”
