You may have noticed marijuana smoking lounges cropping up in Vancouver, especially where there is a high density of dispensaries.
The city insists they are illegal and will be shut down because any smoking in any public indoor location is against city bylaws.
“They have certainly come to our attention. These smoking lounges come under our regular smoking by-law. They will be shut,” says City Councillor Kerry Jang.
He says they seem to be emerging to capitalize on a certain clientele.
“Many of the dispensary owners are building market share and keeping a loyal customer base. It’s all part of their marketing plan, as it was explained to me.”
