Legal advocates say new findings that Aboriginal adults are more likely to be charged after being caught with cannabis are “another example of police bias”.
A study by the New South Wales Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) looked at more than 38,000 cases where adults were found with small amounts of cannabis between January 2017 and February 2020.
It found 12 per cent of Aboriginal adults were issued with a caution from police compared to 44 per cent of non-Aboriginal adults.
