Policeman Sacked for Smoking Cannabis on Duty says: ‘I’ve Been Hung Out to Dry’

Kirk Van Niekerk has slammed the decision to place ticket allocation for his disciplinary hearing with an entertainments company

A disgraced police officer found guilty of smoking cannabis has branded his former employers “a joke” for the way they handled the disciplinary proceedings.

Kirk Van Niekerk, a leading light in the Mormon Church, was found guilty of the offence at the West Midlands’ first ever public police misconduct hearing.

But the South African has claims he has been “hung out to dry”, describing the decision to place ticket allocation for his high-profile sacking in the hands of entertainments company, Eventbrite, as unforgivable.

The firm, more accustomed to showbiz sales-pitches, welcomed those wishing to book a seat for Mr Van Niekerk’s public humiliation with a breezy: “We hope you enjoy West Midlands Misconduct Hearing – PC Van Niekerk, Cheers!”
