CANNABIS CULTURE – It was a sunny day, but the streets of Vancouver were thick with clouds as protesters sparked joint after joint during the Global Marijuana March on May 4, 2013.
Member’s of BC’s cannabis culture gathered at the Vancouver Art Gallery to prepare flags, signs, chants and joints for the 2PM march through the city streets on the way to the beach at English Bay.
Before departing on the march, activists like Jodie Emery, Dana Larsen, and David Malmo-Levine gave short speeches about the War on Marijuana, getting the crowd hyped to mobilize.
Watch Princess of Pot Jodie Emery talk about her imprisoned husband Marc Emery and the human cost of the War on Drugs:
Vancouver police did their part to shut down roads and block traffic while several hundred protestors hit the pavement. Local business owners filled their doorways to have a look while downtown shoppers stopped to smell the aroma of fine cannabis smoke and snap pictures on their smartphones.
“No Prison For Pot”, “Free Marc Emery” and other loud chants echoed off the sides of skyscrapers until the exodus, which included a weed-ified fire truck, arrived at English Bay.
Vendors set up a mini marijuana farmers-market as activist David Malmo-Levine, BCMP Candidate Steve Finlay, former MLA Bob Wilson, lawyer John Conroy and others spoke to the gathered cannabis-loving crowd and beach sunbathers.
Watch Sensible BC organizer Dana Larsen discuss marijuana decriminalization in British Columbia:
Free joints were thrown to the crowd so everyone had something to spark up for the annual 4:20 smoke-fest.

The Global Marijuana March, which took place in over 200 cities this year, was founded in 1999 by marijuana activists from New York and has grown to be one of the largest celebrations of cannabis on the planet.
