World Marches For Marijuana on May 7

The Global Marijuana March is on May 7 in over 250 cities around the world.CANNABIS CULTURE – Over 250 cities from countries around the world are on the list for the 2011 Global Marijuana March. Show your support and hit the streets in your city on SATURDAY, MAY 7.

Also known as the Worldwide Marijuana March, Million Marijuana March, or Global Cannabis March (among other various names), the event takes place every year at the beginning of May to call attention to destructive marijuana laws and demand an end to cannabis prohibition around the world.

This year, there are over 250 cities on the list at Weed Wiki (see below).

Cannabis Culture will be at rallies in Toronto and Vancouver, which are expected to be the largest marches in Canada.

TORONTO

Canada’s largest march will take place in Toronto at Queen’s Park North with the simultaneous Toronto Freedom Festival, the city’s largest one-day, outdoor spring festival, which attracts around 30,000 people. After a brief skirmish with the Toronto Parks Dept., organizers were able to secure a permit to host the event, which they say features “musicians, DJ’s, comedians, visual artists, political activists and speakers gathering peacefully in celebration of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.”

Jodie Emery, wife of imprisoned activist Marc Emery, will give a speech and lead the march with fellow activists. This will be the first year since 2006 that Marc Emery will not be in attendance, due to his arrest and imprisonment in the US for selling marijuana seeds in Canada.

VANCOUVER

In Vancouver, protestors will gather at the Vancouver Art Gallery downtown (750 Hornby St.) starting at Noon and march at 2pm to English Bay to hear music and activist speakers and take part in a large smoking session at 4:20pm. Organizer David Malmo-Levine says this year’s event will be “a victimless crimespree with excesses of democracy”. Click here and here for photos and videos from last year’s march in Vancouver.
