Vaisakhi Celebration in South Vancouver

Marc and I, along with friends, joined the colourful, festive Vaisakhi celebration in South Vancouver, the riding I will be running in federally for the Green Party.

It was a fun day full of free food, drinks, and other goodies, along with an endless rainbow of stunning Punjabi clothing and ceremonial wear and joyous music filling the air. View photos from Vaisakhi 2010 here! (We attended last year’s event too; see photos here.)

The annual Vaisakhi parade in South Vancouver attracted a huge crowd to celebrate the ancient harvest festival and the start of the new year in the solar Nanakshi calendar. It’s a major holiday for Sikhs, commemorating the establishment of the Khalsa in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh, who was the 10th guru. (Info: The Georgia Straight).
