Legislation is underway in Illinois to increase penalties for stealing from the police evidence lockup. A 1996 audit of the Chicago Police Department found almost 50 cases of drugs going missing, with a street value of $6.8 million.
Washington DC is also facing drug-cop corruption. Officer Andrew McGill is charged with being part of a drug-selling gang, and warning them of impending police raids.
