A bill to legalize marijuana in New Hampshire is dead after a House vote Wednesday. The measure was defeated on a vote of 239-122 with no debate. Democrats supported the bill on a roughly two-to-one margin, while Republicans opposed it by roughly the same margin.

CANNABIS CULTURE – After saying that Ayn Rand was required reading for all his interns, and his biggest influence for getting into politics, GOP VP nominee Paul Ryan has now said he enjoyed Rand's novels but rejects her atheistic philosophy.

The Democrats who control the State Assembly, many of them black or Latino residents of New York City, saw a proposal to decriminalize the open possession of small amounts of marijuana as a simple matter of justice: too many black and Latino men were being arrested because, after being stopped by the police, they were forced to empty their pockets.
