The U.S. Supreme Court has made it significantly easier for police to force their way into a home without a warrant. On Monday, the court, by an 8-1 vote, upheld the warrantless search of an apartment after police smelled marijuana and feared that those inside were destroying incriminating evidence.
"Frustrated law enforcement officials" from Massachusetts are making some pretty outrageous claims in a highly dubious article (I've been waiting to use that pun) from the Boston Herald, demanding that "smoking weed is not a victimless crime" and linking pot decriminalization to murder.
Marijuana remains illegal even though public attitudes are clearly changing on this topic. It is illegal even though 100 million Americans have smoked it and suffered little if any negative side effects.
