What's so special about cannabis? What is it about this plant that arouses such passion and ire? Why is it some people want to punish and abuse those who grow this plant, while others are willing to risk great odds and harsh sanctions so they can use and enjoy it?

This issue we bring you some stories on the Cannabis Cup, which is the largest cultural cannabis event in the world. My review of the Cup appears later on, and despite my reservations on how the event is presented and run, I am always inspired by the chance to meet so many of my peers from other parts of the globe.

In last issue's editorial I complained about the tribulations of producing this magazine, and the lack of support we receive from some hemp stores and other businesses. I received a great deal of positive feedback to that editorial from readers and my peers within this movement. Some readers sent us sympathetic letters and cheques (bless you all), while many more said "I am low on cash but want to help.

Creating this magazine can be a frustrating and lonely task. The curse of all writers and artists is that we work in private, usually alone, and we rarely meet those who read or enjoy our work.

Sometimes it's easy to forget that we're still in the midst of a war on marijuana. Most Canadian marijuana smokers never get arrested and only a small percentage are even hassled by police. Cannabis, in some parts of Canada at least, is plentiful and reasonably priced, or at least affordable.
