The Ford government is seeking the public’s feedback on its proposal to allow authorized cannabis stores to open two hours earlier
Weed stores in Ontario may soon be allowed to open at 7 a.m., a couple of hours earlier than they’re currently legally able to.
Premier Doug Ford’s government is proposing a change to the earlier opening time and is welcoming the public’s feedback on it.
For the seven years authorized cannabis retail stores have operated in Ontario, the provincial government has allowed them to be open to customers from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. On Thursday, the Ford government quietly proposed a regulatory change to expand their legally permitted hours to 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The Ministry of the Attorney General’s regulatory proposal posting says the change would help authorized cannabis retailers by providing them with more flexibility and potentially greater profitability.
The proposed change would align the hours cannabis retail stores can be open with when licensed alcohol retailers can sell beer, wine, spirits and other alcoholic beverages. The ministry’s posting says that aligning these retailers’ hours of operation “would also create operational efficiencies for inspectors at the AGCO.”
