The enthusiastic mobilization of thousands of cannabis activists that have promoted a referendum to decriminalize recreational cannabis for personal use since September 2021 has been swept away from Italy’s Supreme Court within a few hours.
Italy’s Supreme Court rejected yesterday, Feb. 16, the referendum that would have decriminalized possession and cultivation of recreational cannabis.
The Court, which had the role in ensuring that the referendum was in line with the Italian Constitution, declared inadmissible the referendum question registered by the proponents of the ballot campaign.
