CANNABIS CULTURE – The Master of the Art of Hashish has passed away.
Frenchy Cannoli has died this July 18th, at the age of 64. Frenchy was a professor and a true Hashishin. He was known for comparing his hash making process to that of wine production, putting emphasis on the quality of products he received from the farmers, the terroir where the product came from and the aging process he applied to his hash.
“The power of what we do in this industry is big deal. We are that last stage where you receive something, and all this is given to you by the farmer but once it is dry and I press it, and I age it, it becomes something else. I don’t only collect grapes and cause them to drink grape juice. I let that grape juice ferment, to make wine, and I make that wine age to make great wine. It is quite different. It is not a process of fermentation, but when you press resin there is a heavy duty, chemical reaction happening into it and he transformation through years,” he said on his documentary by filmmaker Jake Remington.

Frenchy was born in Nice, France, on December 13th, 1956, and passed away this Sunday, July 18th, due to surgery complications. According to his wife Kimberly, also known as Madame Cannoli, Frenchy used to say his life had 3 main periods.
“First, the 18-year timeframe from when he left home in Southern France to travel, wandering the world, enamored of new cultures & experiences, then the period of fatherhood from his mid-30s to early 50s, and then finally the period of becoming the teacher that followed when he came to the states in the 2000s,” she said on a post on Frenchy’s Instagram page.
Frenchy was a Master Hashishin, Lost Art of the Hashishin Workshop Instructor, Lecturer & Educator. He travelled the world for over 20 years to study the art of Hash production, specially in Morocco, Mexico, Nepal, Pakistan and India. He then moved to California where he settled to create the French Cannoli Brand, hosted seminars on hash production, and defend public education and legalization.
He turned his passion for the art of making Hash into a business, but he considered it way much more than a “brand” and said people were mistaken in thinking that it was mainly about his hashish.
“He felt his brand was really about his teachings with an emphasis on using science & traditions to inform the development of the tools and processes he used to make his hashish,” said Madame Cannoli in another Instagram post. “Another really important element of his vision, as I’m sure you’ve heard him say, again and again, is the ‘terroir’ where the plant is grown and the dedication and soul of the farmer who nurtures the plant into the quality that he worked with. I can still hear him in my head saying ‘I don’t create this quality! It is given to me by the farmers I work with’”.

Frenchy was also a reporter at Wee World UK and wrote various articles for publication. His YouTube channel had over 43 thousand subscriptions and his Instagram page has more than 181 thousand followers.
Frenchy was a living legend, and a pioneer. His unexpected death was a huge loss for the Cannabis world and his presence and energy will be largely missed by his family, friends, and everyone that looked up to him.
Rest in Peace, Frenchy.
