Received very exciting news from book publisher Green Candy Press, retailer Urban Outfitters is stocking Marijuana Smoker’s Guidebook The Easy Way to Identify and Enjoy Marijuana Strains. The possibility of casual tokers, serious enthusiasts, or medical cannabis patient finding a copy has gone mainstream because that’s serious retail distribution.
The retailer has a fantastic selection of ganja guides stocked in their apartment accessories section, but we’re the first cannabis strain guide. Depending on your lifestyle, it’s either a great bathroom or coffee table book.
My goal before even finishing the marijuana manuscript was getting into Urban Outfitters and people who shop there were my target reader. It may seem strange to focus on a readership that is casual on cannabis, but the possibility of turning on people with words and photos of great ganja was very appealing.
Hopefully a perchance purchase from Urban Outfitters inspires people to dig deeper into their stash. More people exploring their stash is important in making cannabis legal – because when people discover cannabis is like wine they are going to want much better access to a variety of toke.
Repealing prohibition is going to give people access to huge varieties of cannabis. Websites dedicated to cannabis strain reviews are geared to hardcore enthusiasts and I feel there’s an unnecessary exclusivity about them. The weedy words on review websites can be kind of dull too.
What people are forgetting is cannabis reviewing is very subjective not objective. However, marijuana reviewers pose as objective critics of cannabis. Stoner’s should bring subjectivity to their reviews by adding personal flair. Unfortunately, the current categorized system employed by the majority of marijuana review websites doesn’t foster creativity.
The big challenge for me was to break the marijuana review mold, which has buds judged in a categorized system. This is great for online reviews, but in print form the format becomes stale fast. I accomplished this by incorporating wine reviews and music reviews into my style. The style of the Exclaim music writer played a huge influence.
A reviewer’s words should be inspired by what they are reviewing. Taking the same approach an art, food, music or film critic makes sense when reviewing cannabis.
Inhale a strain while at the computer and punch out a bunch of weedy words. There’s nothing better than a joint and blank page. However, reviewing cannabis really well is actually much harder than it first appears, but daily practice will make you successful.
