Young Liberals Condemn Thomas Mulcair’s Position on Marijuana and the War on Drugs

In their statement, the Young Liberals mentioned a response that Mulcair gave to CTV’s Tom Clark on March 18 when asked about decriminalizing marijuana.

“I think that that would be a mistake, Mulcair replied, “because the information that we have right now is that the marijuana that’s on the market is extremely potent and can actually cause mental illness.”

Mulcair suggested having the issue reviewed by a royal commission.

The second-place finisher, Brian Topp, offered up a different view during the campaign, calling for decriminalization.

The Young Liberals suggested that the NDP will lose a great deal of support as a result of Mulcair’s hardline position on pot.

Last January, Liberals passed a resolution to legalize marijuana.

“Only the Liberal Party will take Canada in a new direction and end Mr. Harper’s failed War on Drugs,” the Young Liberals claimed in their statement.
