Texan sun

I live in central Texas, where it gets very hot during the summer. If I were to plant on the east side of some steep cliffs, would this help protect my plants from the heat? They would still be getting all of the morning sun but it would get dark a little earlier. Would this also make them flower any earlier?
Waco, Texas

The plants will be protected from the sun’s harshest rays and the area will stay cooler if it is shaded all afternoon. The plants will not be as big as they would get if they had full sun all day and adequate moisture. They will probably ripen a week to two earlier than if they had been growing in full sun because the shaded area will darken 20-40 minutes earlier.
