THC reduces opioid dependence

Researchers at the Virginia Commonwealth University have determined that providing THC along with morphine reduces the effects of opioid tolerance in mice, while retaining pain-reduction effects. Mice treated with only morphine had a reduction in opioid receptors, indicating the development of tolerance, while mice treated with morphine and THC together did not.
This research has implications for both long-term pain control, and possible therapies for withdrawal from heroin and other opiates.
