It's that time of year again, when every journalist and blogger is creating their own best of lists. I'm no different. Compiling a best marijuana strains of 2011 is one of the easiest blogs to write. During the busy holiday season when your pressed for time copying and pasting can be done quickly. At least that's what you think. 

Then you get into checking out what you wrote for the past year and begin to think, was that really the best? Suddenly you're filled with self doubt and wonder if anyone even cares about your opinion. I couldn't whittle down my weed selection down to 10 so I'm presenting a 11, but will still call it the ten best.

Lavender This is a stellar tasting toke, especially in a volcano vaporizer, with pleasant peaceful mind relaxing effects. Great marijuana to meditate too! It’s a very mellow meditative stone.

Deadhead Kush Oh my gawd. It’s probably way too early to declare Deadhead Kush a top ten marijuana strain for 2011, but it set the bar damn high. How high? Just a small nug of Deadhead Kushstinks up a room. Your whole hood will know your smoking Deadhead Kush the moment you break a marijuana bud up. Green Crack: Green Crack

Papya I’ve never photographed buds with such a unique deep purple color. The color was rich, vibrant, and beautiful, making for awesome nugporn. Effects of marijuana included an uplifting appetite stimulating motivating stone. 

HashPlant This extremely resinous Hash Plant sample stuck to the grinder every time a nug was ground. I love that about this marijuana strain. I had to use the volcano vaporizer brush to sweep out bits of bud. 

Silver Surfer The buds broke up beautiful and produced a heavy bag of vapor, especially for a sativa dominate strain. Its indica side is a creeper. Instead of a crashing after zipping amongst the clouds like Mario, you’re gently brought down to earth. 

Black Domina Absolutely amazing! This Sensi Seeds strain is unbelievable. Though listed at 80% indica there can not be any sativa in her. It’s a blend of four awesome indicas. Northern Lights, Ortega, Hash Plant and Afghani SA. The flavor is unique and phenomenal. Spicy with hashish overtones. Better than most kush strains I’ve had lately. 

Green Crack This sample of Green Crack was tenderly grown. You can tell plenty of attention was paid to their plants. Just listen to your marijuana plants they’ll tell you what they need. The buds glistened beautifully. Sparkled like a Elizabeth Taylor diamond. Almost didn’t want to grind these beauties up.

Vanilla Kush - Oh my ganja! Doesn’t get more perfect than Vanilla Kush. Beyond amazingly grown. Fantastically grown ganja! Resulting in wonderful pain relieving medicinal marijuana. Excellent for mediation, napping or sleeping.

LA Confidential Fantastic ganja. It’s difficult to write a review because of the downward high. Great for movie watching, but doing something creative that requires motivation is difficult.LA Confidential

G13 Haze Careful! This nearly pure sativa will get you jumping. More than a Starbucks. Like six of seven coffees in one volcano vaporizer canister. Too much G13 Haze and you maybe bouncing off the walls. For hours! My mind was scattered after one vapor bag.

Sour Aliens Cali Connection Sour Aliens is a powerful day time toke. A fine balance of pain relief and get up and go. One hoot of this marijuana strain and you’ll be dancing around your place. I know I was. It had some serious sativa zing to it that made writing a marijuana review so much easier. The high was clear headed and creative with just enough couch-locking. 

It’s the special Halloween edition of The Mernahuana Show. The weekly weedy variety (420 est until 420 pst) show geared to stoners is kicking it up a notch yet again. How can we can top making hash using GreenHarvest Pollenmaster 150, bringing live marijuana plants to the studio (Vapor Central) and other zaniness that I can’t remember?

By making pumpkin bongs!

That’s right! Bongs from pumpkins. Like the apple or potato pipe we believe we can totally make a bong from a pumpkin. We’re not sure if it’s going to be good. However, if you can brew pints of pumpkin beer - we seriously think we can use a pumpkin to filter marijuana for a better toke. Or at least a pumpkin flavored toke! People talk about marijuana strains with great flavor or use flavored rolling papers - well this is the next step.

Can we get a good pumpkin taste? Or will it taste terrible? I don’t know! I’m curious to find out. The question we all have - or at least I do - should we clean out the pumpkin guts or not. So we’re going to make two pumpkin bongs. One with guts in it, one sans guts. The sans guts we’ll fill with some water and the one with guts will just let it rip. Then we decide.

My Tweeps @Rosepants and @Coralreefer420 have done this project before with great results. You can watch their video on how to make a pumpkin bong. They’re so cannabis crafty! They did a great job explaining how to make a pumpkin bong. It’s so easy that the professional potheads who sit in the ‘people who don’t smoke schwag’ section of the studio audience can do it. I’m counting on them to pull through on this project. Though I’m kind of nervous they’ll somehow fuck it up. With them you just never know. Do budbabes make better crafters? We'll find out!

All potheads will be given an opportunity to try the pumpkin bong to make their own decision on whether it’s good or not. We (or me) might be able to convince executive producer and lounge manager / owner Goodster to keep the pumpkin bongs around for a few days to let people try them. Some simple rules for today. Keep it clean. No fucking around with pumpkin guts. No making the lounge gross with pumpkin innards. We’re going to clean up after ourselves. Remember the line between fun and stupid is very narrow. Let’s not cross over it making pumpkin bongs.

The last election special I’ll be hosting for sometime is taking place today (Thursday, Oct. 6) at Vapor Central. The Mernahuana Show is doing a Thursday night crossover with regularly scheduled Third Klass Comedy. It’s going to be interesting because comedians will add the necessary vibe that is actually found inside Queens Park. They’ll provide antics. I’ll provide the politics.

The CBC‘s big woe is to show a Toronto Maple Leafs home opener or not. Against Montreal Canadians no less! Until a Toronto Maple Leaf home opener is declared an Ontario holiday this problem won’t be solved. Who’s going to promise that Freedom Party’s Matthew Oliver?

Outside of Ontario few people actually care about our provincial election. A Bob Rae play is not known in other provinces. Outside of their own province people just don’t know who provincial political players are. I could name a British Columbia premier, such as Glenn Campbell, but who’s their new person. (I could google the answer, but like I said, we don’t really care what happens in other provinces.) It’s not even an Ontario thing. Quebec has Jean Charest, but he has been premier forever. Two days ago Manitoba won a fourth NDP majority. But that was national news.

Apparently some farmers somewhere love socialism. Not Ontario farmers! Where it’s the opposite. Cities vote for the orange and rural vote for the blue. Except northern ontario where ondp has a manitoba like love affair with the party. Creating a rural vs. urban divide in the caucus. Ontario NDP could make some gains in Ontario as the province heads to minority government possibilities. The polls are showing a deadheat! With premier Dalton McGuinty pulling ahead of Conservative Tim Hudak in the last legs…we think.

Hudak is sucking wind coming down the homestretch despite being propped up by the Toronto Sun. Who are also predicting the Leaf’s make the playoffs! People didn’t really know this young MPP who has been around since the province was ruined by premier Mike Harris. Then they discovered they didn’t much care for him either.

Voters want all three parties to work out well thought out solutions. Politicians and pundits complain minorities don’t work. Unfortunately, media (both traditional and social) short term memory (and they complain about potheads) has everyone unaware that Ontario had a minority government during the economic crisis of the ‘70s. The NDP under the leadership of Stephen Lewis and Progressive Conservative Bill Davis stewarded Ontario beautifully.

Here in his own words Premier Davis explains how it worked, “I actually respected the opposition and their leaders. Sure, we had our public moments in the house, but we had pretty good relationships. That’s the secret of minority management.” (Toronto Star Sept. 10/2010) We need two leaders to step up for the sake of province to demonstrate leadership. Though Davis hasn’t been welcome in the party in decades he is thought of positively in the province on all sides of the political spectrum. His progressive stance on community colleges, social programs and health care can no longer be found in Tim Hudak’s Conservatives. Which are based on Mike Harris political bully principals. Hudak’s wife Deb Hutton was Harris chief of staff and got those “fucking Indians” out of Ipperwash. By having the OPP shoot Dudley George. Then forgot about it completely…And you thought Premier Bob Rae was bad.

Hudak won’t play well with others. In fact he’ll go the route of Prime Minister Harper and do anything, but work well. A summer BBQ video showing Harper encouraging Toronto supporters to pull off a political hatrick has been pulled by YouTube numerous times after complaints from the Prime Ministers Office or Hudak’s campaign team. Weirdly it’s not that bad of video, but I guess they don’t want the association with Mayor Rob Ford who hosted the BBQ and PM Harper.

Depending on how bad Premier McGuinty falls into minority status he may step down. It’d be great if their interim leader was their most seasoned politician MPP Jim Bradely. Who handed me my grade eight diploma! A leaderless Libs would pave the way for a better Lib-NDP partnership. New Democrats haven’t ruled out working with either. Much like Stephen Lewis it’d be on a bill-by-bill basis…but it won’t be Hudak.

In fact leader Andrea Horwath basic speech for the past two years to New Demorats has been about how Queens Park has become nothing more than a grade school playground and she’s the mom to keep the boys under control. You’d think she was predicting a minority… I most recently saw her give this style speech at Vancouver federal NDP convention, but haven’t seen it on the campaign trail.

Vapor Central staff will be keeping track of Freedom Party votes as they come in on some kind of big board. With a friendly competition among cannabis enthusiasts to see who will garner the most votes. Tune in tonight to The Mernahuana Show at 8 p.m. for alternative coverage of Ontario election. Yah I know people outside of Ontario are not interested whatsoever in provincial politics, but the comedy will be awesome and my election special outfit is more than worth toking and tuning into.

Enthusiasts are constantly seeking out strains to sample. Like other types of researchers they too use Google or other search engines to seek out information on a specific strain.

As a pro bong hitting blogger my goal is to get those people to check out my site. Over 4500 different weedy words were punched into google last month resulting in plenty of potheads landing on Mernagh - my personal blog has become mostly a marijuana reviews site. I didn’t really intend it to be that way, but it’s pretty cool to see sites like Leafly and Marijuana Reviews social sites with a community of reviews then mine. With well over 150 weed reviews written so far I think I’m doing pretty good. My goal as a weed review is to take a music reviewer approach. Based on people’s searches here are the ten popular marijuana strains on the site for the month of September.

This Pink Kush review is constantly numero uno. Written back in March 2010 this review is constantly in the top five every month. I wrote this kush was a bit too pricey, but still good. The photo is fantastic and the font uses the new size.
Cannatonic is another consistently popular strain.

The strain Cannatonic is not a pure indica. You would think it be nothing but pure comatose couch-lock. Given its billing. Instead it’s a 50/50.
The best part at looking at my top keywords is finding old reviews like this Chocolate Thai from 2009. It’s over two years old now, and shows off my early style. Great close up photos using my dope scope. Not sure why so many people are seeking out Chocolate Thai, but they are. Best I wrote it two years ago and the review keeps on getting read.

This Grand Daddy Purple page is weak at best. Needs an overhaul. It’s from Oct. 2009. Talk about not figuring it out yet. Great headline though, Grand Daddy Purple We Luh You. I’ll get around to fixing it soon.
There are currently three purple kush reviews . With more coming. Currently I have two I’m prepping to publish. People love purple kush even if I wrote that Sativa Is In And Kush is out a while back, people are still seeking it out.

Mango Kush will probably be the year end leader. For months it has been dominating the number one spot as the premier weed review on Mernagh. However, it has started to fall. More people punch in the word mango kush and arrive at the site than any other strain.
I still remember when we had this White Berry. The photo on this page is terrible. This was when I was focused at all on images. Though this was in 2009. Given I can still remember when I had this sample, I think I’ll continue to declare it the best bud ever.

White Widow is possibly one of the most searched for weedy words. A Gen X classic, search engine opitmizers have staked heavy claims on Green House Seeds white widow. It’s been a while since I’ve reviewed a white widow strain. Though I’ve written plenty about other white strains, I’ve not seen white widow around in a while.
My facebook and twitter is constantly a buzz about Jean Guy. This white whidow x skunk 1 is my all time favorite strain. I grew her. She’s a beauty. The lemony zing with the skunk bit is amazing. Not surprising then it’s one of the top searched for strains. People are trying to figure what I’m growing on about.
Just wrote this OG Kush review, but it’s already done great for me. Approximately 80,000 people search for OG Kush per month. Making it the most searched for cannabis strain.

Unlike pro shows with former footballers who fake knowledge, our weedy webcast is filled with couch-locked potheads who have gotten high for the past 20 years every Sunday. Taking in pre-game then game-after-game-after-game. They’ve absorbed sum serious knowledge. We all know marijuana opens your mind, making it easy to suck in knowledge.
Matt Central has been doing just that for twenty years. He’s primed and had a great pre-season. Despite it being strike shortened. He’s got notes on the fantasy players you gotta have, who’s hurt / who’s not, locker room news and rumor. Our defensive tackle is more excited than a Buffalo Bills fan with season tickets.
As his co-host I’ll be keeping him talking solely about football and smoking indica. I’ve been reading up and ready to get in the trenches. Thinking football allows me to get in the head of Toronto mayor Rob Ford. I’ll be able to think a little more like his brainy brother Dougy Ford. I’m not off topic. The Fords are NFL football fanatics. Hence their love of all things American. Mayor Ford is the Fridge of politics.
I’m a little rusty on my knowledge. Does Joe Montana and Jerry Rice still play in San Francisco? It’s one liners like that, should keep Matt Central on his toes.
Once we have plenty of people tuning in, our efforts to acquire some actual talent to work with Matt Central should happen. Maybe a Ford? My efforts at hiring a retired NFL sports star haven’t been successful just yet. Ricky Williams has returned again or has he to the field. I have my eye on acquiring lineman Mark Stepnoski from Texas NORML. “During his career he amassed numerous accolades including five consecutive Pro Bowl appearances and two Super Bowl rings with the Dallas Cowboys.” He would totally beef up the HashMob starting line.

Medical marijuana grower Matt Mernagh, who has a court ordered exemption from Canada’s pot laws allowing him to grow and possess medicinal cannabis, is inviting Ontario provincial Conservative leader Tim Hudak to visit his grow-op. Two weeks ago Hudak admitted to inhaling in university as part of a normal upbringing. However as premier he’ll target pot producers, but not tokers. blue hazeThe provincial Conservative party is promising, if elected this fall, they’ll create a marijuana grow-op registry of homes used to produce pot. Hudak pledges potential homeowners will no longer wonder if their home was used to grow marijuana. Like his women will not allowed to be topless in public promise - voters in Ontario are not clamoring for cannabis law reform.
The new pot propaganda is grow-a-ganda. The last remaining card for prohibitionists is to demonize where doobies they smoked in university came from. What’s really happening here?
Hudak is seeking to convince people who haven’t smoked marijuana in a long time they’re just like him. Unable to find a dealer. They know from experimenting not researching, weed is not dangerous. However, these former tokers have never seen a grow. Making it easier to demonize. To see one, they should tune in on Sunday nights at 9 pm est to watch Mernagh Marijuana Grow Show live webcast. Few marijuana enthusiasts have seen grows. Unless they’re involved in one. Former tokers like Hudak know marijuana is harmless, but they’re unsure about grow-ops. Most would still be toking, if they could only score sum. Will they buy into Hudak’s grow-a-ganda?
Last I checked mold is a public health issue and unsafe buildings are for building inspectors. Remember those, Toronto? Or is the falling glass from condos not freaking people out yet. What we have here is law enforcement greatly expanding their parenting role by shit talking how grows are dangerous.
Don’t be fooled by the grow-a-ganada. The majority of marijuana growers are normal home owning people who are enthusiastic about cannabis. Given Ontario’s economy many have turned to growing to make ends meet by turning a bedroom, den or spot in their basement into a personal space to produce a small supply. Their twenty or thirty plants earn a small profit that is put immediately back into Ontario’s economy. No grower is going to show up to the bank with a thousand or two to make a deposit into their RRSP. Instead they make cash purchases to spur the local economy.
Hudak should be promising to address the fiscal and societal shortfalls in Ontario Legal Aid. Or the provincial prison problem that is set to get worst because of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s mandatory grow-op sentences. The moral crusade against cannabis has commenced.
Overgrow the government hasn’t rung more truer.

Ontario Court of Appeal court dates have been chosen for R v. Mernagh. The court ruling gutting Canada’s federal medical marijuana program, personal possession and cultivation laws is set to be heard March 5 and 6.

A small team of talented lawyers will descend on Toronto, ON, Osgoode Hall for two days to argue before a panel of three judges. Earlier this summer federal prosecutors won a reprieve on a 90 day marijuana legalization deadline. In exchange for a legal time out - prosecutors were ordered to have their case ready by mid-November. Team Mernagh was given an option to chose the dates. Given the lengthy prep required to defend their victory they've opted for March. Training will start in the new year.
Paul Lewin will represent Matthew Mernagh. Several interveners have expressed interest in becoming positively involved. These community driven agencies will be sending lawyers who will seek to address the court as third parties. Given the scope of The Mernagh Ruling having more than one lawyer working the appeal judges is important.
Should medicinal marijuana patient Matt Mernagh be allowed to grow his own cannabis without a Health Canada license? Mernagh argues he is unable to get his doctor to sign a Health Canada med pot application. Ontario Superior court judge D.J. Taliano concluded less than one half of a one percent of Canadian doctors have signed applications. Prosecutors argue the problem is not with the federal program, but with doctors'. Mernagh retorts the federal government has tasked doctors as gatekeepers to a program they've had no input on. Canadian Medical Association has written Health Canada expressing concerns that have gone un-answered.
Justice Taliano ruled medicinal marijuana is not treatment of last resort. As Health Canada contends. Canadians should not have to try a slew of pharmaceutical medications before choosing plant therapy. To cope with doctor unwillingness the justice suggests alternative therapy practitioners be allowed to sign applications. With no federal legal medical marijuana program accessible to sick Canadians, he determined Canada’s marijuana laws for personal cultivation and possession un-constitutional. Mernagh’s marijuana grow charge was squashed and he was granted an exemption from federal marijuana laws. Allowing him to grow marijuana legally.

This week, my Chemo and Jean Guy plants enter their fifth week of marijuana flowering. They’re looking healthy and dense. You’re going to see some excellent bud growth. Even on the little Chemo plants! Jean Guy is a 10 to 11 week flower. While Chemo is 8 weeks.
Week five the nug porn is going to be fantastic!
You’ll be able to see the plants easily stayed below the height of an apartment balcony railing. It wasn’t my original intention, given the room is so large. Very happy with the plant bending and tying I did.
Sunday is Day 23 for the auto-flowering strains. Dr. Autoflower has suggested I update my YouTube page every five days. I’m going to try because the autos grow quickly. Four of the five plants are looking pretty fantastic. You’re going to view two slightly different Il Diavolo plants from Delicious Seeds.
I started these in smaller than preferred pots because that’s what I had. You got to use what you have access to and or is affordable in your budget. This is what keeps potential growers down. Believing they need all this stuff to get growing. I believe in just getting started and upgrade as you go. Get the best of the basics. Financial savings from harvest can then be spent on upgrades.
