Vancouver 4/20 a Go at Sunset Beach Despite Political Hot Air

CANNABIS CULTURE – Vancouver 4/20 is officially moving to Sunset Beach!

Organizers of Vancouver’s largest marijuana event met (again) today with members of the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Parks Board staff to discuss details of the big move.

Despite some political “bickering” this week in the mainstream press, Vancouver City and Parks authorities are committed to working with event organizers to make the new location safe and secure for the massive pot protestival.

Fire, safety, police and special events staff will work directly with protest organizers – as they have for the last four years – without issuing an official event permit.

Vancouver’s 4/20 event, traditionally held at the Vancouver Art Gallery, has grown to include a large outdoor marijuana farmers market and a stage show with live music and activist speakers.

An estimated 30,000 people or more attended last year’s event, which many organizers feel has now outgrown the Art Gallery location. City officials informed 4/20 organizers late last year of construction plans that will see the Art Gallery space closed and fenced-off during the April 20 event.

Event organizers performed an exhaustive search of suitable replacement locations, but eventually decided on Sunset Beach, just west of the Burrard St. bridge, where other major outdoor events are held.

“Sunset Beach is Vancouver’s biggest and best outdoor event venue, and will allow 4/20 to expand and grow into a much larger event with more people, more booths, more cannabis and more freedom than ever before, ” event organizer Dana Larsen told the press this week.
