Kentucky agricultural officials told the Associated Press Thursday evening that the DEA had approved a permit allowing the state to import a 250-lb. shipment of hemp seed to be used for research purposes.
Hemp seeds could be released by federal officials to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture by Thursday as disagreements between the state and U.S. officials appear resolved.
Hemp contains trace amounts of THC, the psychoactive ingredient also found in marijuana, classified alongside heroin and LSD as a Schedule I drug under federal law.
