CANNABIS CULTURE – Goodweeds Vapor Lounge, an envelope-pushing marijuana lounge opened recently in Toronto, was raided by police and closed for business on Thursday.
Owners Chris and Erin Goodwin were arrested and taken into custody, according to witness Jamie Mcconnell, who was at the lounge and handcuffed by police before being released.
Mcconnell told Cannabis Culture about a dozen regular and drug squad police officers swarmed the building, seizing marijuana and shatter before completely shutting down the lounge.
“The customers were just questioned and released; [none of them were] arrested,” Mcconnell said.
“As they were talking to everybody, the brown paper came out over the windows. Immediately, before we were detained, they went after the security cameras. They shut the whole place down.”
Goodweeds opened on Christmas Eve 2015 and quickly set itself apart from other Toronto marijuana lounges by selling dabs of marijuana extracts and vaporizer bags – for recreational purposes – directly to customers for consumption on premises.
Mcconnell said he overheard the police say something that sounded like “when we get a complaint, we respond to it.”
He also said a recent VICE news piece (watch in the window below at 2:11) about Goodweeds was brought up by police.
“They did mention lots of the video on VICE and how Chris said it was illegal on the video,” he said. “They seemed to know a lot of Chris from the Internet.”
