CANNABIS CULTURE – The next big marijuana event is already here! The Global Marijuana March, a worldwide protest march held every year in countries around the globe on the first Saturday in May (in most places), happens tomorrow in a city near you!
The Global Marijuana March (GMM), also known in some places as the Million Marijuana March, was started in 1999 by well-known (and now imprisoned) Yippie pot activist Dana Beal and eventually spread across the planet.
Since 1999, over 800 cities from 71 nations have signed up to take part in the protest.
This year over 200 cities from 40 countries will march for marijuana.
Toronto is home to Canada’s largest GMM, which has traditionally been held on the first Saturday in May. This year, due to controversial scheduling changes made by organizers of the Toronto Freedom Festival (TFF), there will be two marches.
The first march, organized by Toronto Hash Mob, will be held on Saturday, May 4. Protestors will gather at Queen’s Park from High Noon.
The second march, organized by the TFF crew, will be held on Saturday, May 11. At the time of publication of this article, TFF organizer Neev tells Cannabis Culture it is “not clear” if his group will secure city permits to use Queen’s Park for vendors and stages.
Protest paraders will gather at the Vancouver Art Gallery from High Noon. The march starts at 2PM and will make its way through the downtown city streets until arriving at English Bay for speeches and a 4:20 smoke session.
