Spokane Police Officer resigns over Gorge drug buy

SPOKANE — A Spokane Police Officer has resigned in lieu of being fired after being accused of buying drugs at a rock concert at The Gorge Amphitheater last weekend.

Jonathon Smith, a three-year veteran of the Spokane Police Department, resigned Tuesday afternoon.

Smith was at a concert on Sunday headlined by the band Tool when witnesses saw him buy cookies supposedly laced with marijuana. By coincidence two other off-duty Spokane Police Officers – Sgt. Craig Meidl and Cpl. Robbie Dashiell – were also attending the concert. They were also approached by the man selling the cookies and then saw their fellow officer eat them.
