Scientists have known that the active psychoactive compound in marijuana is THC, which is short for tetrahydrocannabinol.

Researchers Find Study of Medical Marijuana Discouraged

Despite the Obama administration’s tacit support of more liberal state medical marijuana laws, the federal government still discourages research into the medicinal uses of smoked marijuana.

That may be one reason that — even though some patients swear by it — there is no good scientific evidence that legalizing marijuana’s use provides any benefits over current therapies.

Cannabis May Protect Against Osteoporosis

A study on mice showed that while properties of the plant can reduce strength in the young, it may guard against osteoporosis.

Researchers at the University of Edinburgh said a molecule in the body, which can be activated by cannabis, is "key" to the development of the bone disease.

It was not previously known whether the results would be positive or negative.

The Surprising Effect Of Marijuana On Morphine Dependence

This has been shown by a study carried out by Valérie Daugé and her team at the Laboratory for Physiopathology of Diseases of the Central Nervous System (UPMC / CNRS / INSERM) in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology. The findings could lead to therapeutic alternatives to existing substitution treatments.

Carl Sagan inspired by marijuana

Using the pseudonym "Mr. X", Sagan wrote about his pot smoking in an essay published in the 1971 book "Reconsidering Marijuana." The book's editor, Lester Grinspoon, recently disclosed the secret to Sagan's biographer, Keay Davidson. Davidson, a writer for the San Francisco Examiner, revealed the marijuana use in an article published in the newspaper's magazine Sunday. "Carl Sagan: A Life" is due out in October.

Cannabis Calculations

As Canadian medical cannabis is becoming a real possibility, it?s worth noting that all the pot thousands of patients would ever require could be grown by a handful of farmer-ceutical workers on a few hectares of land.

The following rough calculations suggest that the entire legal medical marijuana farming proposal will not be a big deal, certainly much smaller in scale than many med-pot watchers may imagine.

US gov't will sell pot for research

The US government has announced they will loosen key restrictions on the use of marijuana for scientific research. The new rules, announced on May 21 and coming into force this December, will empower the National Institute on Drug Abuse to sell marijuana to any privately funded scientists whose research proposals have been approved.
