The Belgian government announced in early September that it would likely be following the example of Holland, and make medicinal cannabis available through pharmacies, by prescription only.
A number of studies into the medical benefits of cannabis are currently being carried out in Belgian universities.

Since September 1, two varieties of cannabis have been available by prescriptionthrough Dutch pharmacies. They cost between eight and 10 euros per gram.
