I use 600 watt HPS lights. At the 6th week of flowering the plants sometimes shoot out spindly re-growth on the top of what is otherwise a thick well formed bud. Is this because the light is too close?

The problem is the lamp's heat, which is beating down on the bud. The solution is an air-cooled reflector. These reflectors use a fan to draw air from outside the garden. The air passes through the glass enclosed reflector and absorbs the heat. The heated air is exhausted outside the grow space. The air never touched the garden so it is totally odorless. Air cooled reflectors eliminate most of the heat that the lights create.
