It's ridiculous that the law makers just don't get it. The sad truth is that until someone figures out a way for EVERYONE who is against the drug war to actually stand up and be counted without the risk of recrimination, the politicians will continue to prance around spewing 80-year-old rhetoric like it's gospel. Law enforcement is brainwashed to expect the worst during every encounter so it's not really suprising that some nervous nelly would pull the trigger without any justification whatsoever. The whole system is just setup to create it's own disaster. Best wishes to Derek Copp in a speedy recovery. The shooter is on administrative leave ... what is that? Sounds like some special time to go to the library and see if you can find a good story. Shouldn't be hard ... try one of the more obscure selections near Grimm's Fairy Tales!
