I am growing some Jack Flash plants which were doing very well under a 24 hour lighting regime, until someone told me that 24 hours was too much, and that I had to use an 18 on, 6 off regimen. I changed the lighting. A week after, most of the plants were showing sex and had slowed their growth. I want them to stay in the vegetative stage, so they can grow more.

Canada Customs has been blocking hemp products coming across the border from the US. Since July 2000, hemp cosmetic products produced by Dr Bronner's Magic Soaps, Merry Hempsters and Sun Dog have all been refused entry into Canada and shipped back to their manufacturers.

Documents obtained by researcher Ken Rubin under the Access to Information Act have revealed more details about Canada's plans for medical pot production.
Health Canada has yet to pick who will grow the 85 kilos of bud needed for the 100,000 joints to be used in the first year of research. That amount will be doubled for the following four years of planned studies.

Health Canada also intends on producing 29,400 placebo joints with less than 0.1% THC.

Cannabis Culture magazine faced down police censorship in Timmins, Ontario, and won.
In late September, police in Timmins, Ontario began threatening local storeowners with arrest if they continued selling Cannabis Culture and High Times magazines. As a result, both were pulled off the shelves of all stores in the city.

On November 1, the journal Nature published a report from a team of international researchers on how anandamide, the chemical messenger which cannabinoids mimic, interacts with coughing.
Animal studies showed that anandamide inhibits coughing caused by an irritant when lung muscles are tense, but when lung airways are relaxed it causes a coughing spasm.

Debra Cannistraci, who gave up custody of her children after being denied medical marijuana by a family court adjudicator and becoming too sick to care for them (see CC#27, Pot-parents lose their kids ), has moved to Berkeley, California, resumed her use of the healing herb, and regained her strength.
"I am up to 110 pounds," said Cannistraci. "Now the trick is to maintain weight."

British pot-activist Colin Davies gave the Queen a bouquet containing cannabis and other flowers during her visit to Manchester on October 12.
Davies said "it was a harmless way of trying to bring to the notice of Her Majesty the ludicrous restrictions on cannabis."

The Queen unknowingly accepted the bouquet and it was placed in the Royal Limousine.

Davies is founder of a Medical Marijuana Co-operative in Stockport.

During the daylight hours plants breathe in and use CO2 much the same way we animals metabolize oxygen. Gen-X research in Saskatchewan has produced "essence of hemp," the extracted essential oil of hemp buds. Sasha Przytyk, the founder of Gen-X, told Cannabis Culture that the product could be used for beer, liqueurs, candies, incense, massage oils, soaps, perfumes, creams, candles and insect repellent." He jokingly added another pair of uses, "sniffer dog freaker-outer" and "cop attractant."

France seizes hemp clothing

In May 2000, French customs agents seized a $5000US order of hemp clothing because of a pot leaf symbol on the fabric.
Customs agents claimed that the leaf violated article L630 of France's penal code, which prohibits presenting "narcotics" in a favourable manner.

The clothes were shipped from Crucial Creations in the USA, and destined for La Maison du Chanvre in Lyon.

The clothes were held for six months, and then released in late October.

Government abducts hemp activist's granddaughter
