In her January 5 column, Ann Landers came out in favour of marijuana law reform. In response to an impassioned plea from a mother whose "good kid" got busted for possession of pot, Ann wrote "I have long believed that the laws regarding marijuana are too harsh. Those who keep pot for their own personal use should not be treated as criminals. A long stay in prison makes no sense whatsoever."

The Canadian Government almost legalized marijuana in 1979, and Canadians didn't even know it. In preparation for a major change in drug policy, the Ministry of Health called on the Health Protection Branch (HPB) to produce a report exploring cannabis' risks and possible alternatives to prohibition.

? Satirical magazine, The Onion, had fun with US drug warriors in their most recent issue. Their intrepid reporter called up DARE, the Council on Drug Abuse, and the Office of National Drug Control Policy, variously pretending to be a concerned parent who has been smoking up with his son, an employer who wants to take four ounces of flesh from his employees for drug testing, and a major drug dealer trying to get in touch with Drug Czar Barry McCaffrey. Hemp-seed food creator Richard Rose of Hemprella fame has announced a new technology for processing hemp seeds that will make them "drug test compatible," as well as easier to eat.
Lab tests from 1996 and '97 showed that eating hemp seeds and hemp seed oil can cause positive results in THC urine tests. This apparently happens because small amounts of resin remain clinging to the seed hulls, and are transferred to the oil during pressing.

The island nation of Mauritius saw widespread rioting and conflict in February, after a popular Creole rastafarian reggae singer and marijuana advocate died while in police custody. Joseph Topize, known as Kaya, was arrested on Thursday, February 18, for openly smoking marijuana at a legalization rally organized by the Republican Movement Party. After three days in jail Kaya was dead.

I thought I might have made a error in purchasing your magazine, but as I read the first few pages, I realized that I was totally wrong!

This is in regard to Marc Emery's interview (CC#16, The Prince of Pot). The key thing I would like to say is that there is never enough said about the power of the marijuana seed! Your magazine targets many many interesting factors, but the use of seeds could never be over emphasized!
