About the film:

“Prince of Pot: The US vs Marc Emery” is a documentary filmed in 2006 and 2007 broadcast to millions across Canada numerous times on TV. It’s finally available on DVD in its extended film festival format, and comes with extra scenes and bonus interviews, too!

“Prince of Pot” tells the story of how Marc Emery’s activism career began long ago in London, Ontario with censorship and literature laws, then advanced into a massive campaign based in Vancouver, BC to end marijuana prohibition and “Overgrow the Government”.

Since 1994, Marc ran in elections, operated his retail store, and used his seed business to fund $4 million in various marijuana and drug policy reform organizations and causes. He also paid half a million to Revenue Canada as a “marijuana seed vendor”, sent his magazine Cannabis Culture (with its regular 12-page marijuana seed catalogue) to every Member of Parliament, and received major mainstream media coverage in Canada, the US, and around the world.

Even though Marc only sold marijuana seeds, not marijuana, and never went to America, the US Drug Enforcement Administration and Canadian police arrested Marc and coworkers Michelle and Greg on July 29th, 2005. The three now face extradition to the US and possible life imprisonment for “conspiracy to produce and traffic marijuana”.

“Prince of Pot” follows Marc Emery as he fights extradition in court and tries to save his co-accused while running his magazine and retail store in Vancouver, BC. Director Nick Wilson uses interviews with people on both sides to examine how American drug laws and the DEA reached into Canada, and asks if marijuana is dangerous enough to justify the extreme measures used to prohibit it.

“Prince of Pot: The US vs Marc Emery” is a masterful and fast-paced documentary film sure to make you laugh, cry, and question authority.
