CANNABIS CULTURE – Late night comedy kings Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have been calling-out crooked mainstream media personalities over their soaring hypocrisy about marijuana legalization.
Back from Christmas vacation on Monday night, The Colbert Report‘s Stephen Colbert diced-up New York Times columnist David Brooks’ pathetic half-attack on marijuana legalization entitled “Weed: Been There. Done That.”
“How dare Coloradans spend January 1st ruining their bodies with weed,” Colbert asked, “when they’re supposed to be at home vomiting all the booze from New Year’s Eve, like God intended?”
Colbert poked fun at Brooks for writing “For a little while in my teenage years, my friends and I smoked marijuana. It was fun. I have some fond memories of us all being silly together. I think those moments of uninhibited frolic deepened our friendships.”
Despite his uninhibited frolicking, Brooks wrote “I think being stoned is not a particularly uplifting form of pleasure and should be discouraged more than encouraged. … In legalizing weed, citizens of Colorado are, indeed, enhancing individual freedom. But they are also nurturing a moral ecology in which it is a bit harder to be the sort of person most of us want to be.”
On Tuesday night, The Daily Show‘s Jon Stewart torched a lineup of brain-dead right-wing pundits including Bill O’Reilly, Joe Scarborough, and Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy, all who’ve made recent comments exaggerating the dangers of marijuana – and celebrating the pleasures of drinking alcohol.
Stewart played a jaw-dropping clip of O’Reilly claiming marijuana use is “literally Russian Roulette” (yes, he seriously said that).
“In fact,” Stewart quipped, “I think the only difference between a bong hit, and pointing a loaded gun at your own skull, is that the gun can kill you instantly and must never be criminalized or restricted in any way at all, ever!”
In a second segment, Stewart hilariously called out Fox’s Steve Doocy, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, and others for their total hypocrisy regarding marijuana and alcohol.
“What’s to keep somebody from getting all potted up on weed and then getting behind the wheel?” Doocy asked in clip from his show on Fox News.
After a montage showing some of TV’s favorite Neo-Con news hacks drinking beer on air and talking about celebrating with alcohol, Stewart played another clip of Doocy telling the audience of his New Years Eve plans. “I’m gonna get real drunk,” he said.
“Yeah, I’m gonna get real drunk,” Stewart mocked, “I just hope I don’t see any of those loser pot heads when I’m getting all fucked up. That would kill my totally socially acceptable alcohol buzz.”
