A Saskatoon company has been granted the first two licences to produce and distribute medical marijuana under new Health Canada pot rules.
Prairie Plant Systems Inc. and its subsidiary, CanniMed Ltd., are to sell three brands of pharmaceutical-grade marijuana for people with chronic and terminal illnesses.
Each brand has a different strength of THC — the active ingredient in pot.
The company, which has been Health Canada’s only supplier for 13 years, says the medical marijuana can be used to treat pain, nausea and stimulate appetite.
