Seattle Hempfest 2013 and The Power of Doritos

CANNABIS CULTURE – This year at Seattle Hempfest, thanks to the legal status of marijuana in Washington State, police were handing out bags of Doritios to the crowd.

I spoke to Seattle Hempfest Executive Director Vivian McPeak in preparation for his appearance today on my show Cannabis Culture News LIVE.

McPeak explained his reaction to the nacho cheese-covered-tongue-in-cheek move by Seattle Police:

I went through three phases with the Dorito Thing:

The first phase was, “oh, that’s cute.”

The second phase was, “oh my God, the only thing any media wants to talk about is Doritios? We issued three press releases man, and all they want to talk about is Doritos.”

And the third phase was, “oh my God we’re getting international media attention that we’ve never had before. I love the Doritos!

Though it might not seem like much, the Dorito Thing is an acknowledgement from Seattle police that potheads and pot are virtually harmless – and that cops won’t have much to do but hand out munchies and twiddle their thumbs.

Not a bad message for the mainstream media to be spreading around the world: The Drug War is a joke.
