Hatch Adds Marijuana Grow Amendment to Immigration Bill

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) has introduced an amendment to the pending federal immigration bill that would create harsher penalties for anyone growing marijuana on public federal lands.

The amendment has already won the approval of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Hatch announced in Tuesday statement. The committee is expected to vote on the overall bill later this week.

Under Hatch's amendment, people caught growing marijuana on federal lands would face aggravated penalties. They would also have to serve their sentences consecutive to, not concurrent with, any other sentences.

"In my home state of Utah, the Drug Enforcement Administration and local law enforcement have seized more than 110,000 marijuana plants this past year," Hatch said. "These sites are typically far from the eyes of law enforcement, where growers can take the time needed to grow potent marijuana."

The amendment is only one of several Hatch has introduced to the immigration bill. He and fellow Republican colleagues have introduced numerous amendments aimed at bolstering border security and making it a higher priority than liberalization of immigration policy.

Lets see, do I commit a felon or do I die? How many have died with this being illegal. I’ve known it will help my situation for months. Yet, for some reason, I have only raised hell. One you tube was talking about the lung fibrosis she was diagnosed with and the amount of hemp oil needed. If I took it in Texas I would be a felon. I am already suppose to be dead but I did a great deal of research and kept notes of why some days were worse and compared. If I hadn’t, I would be dead. I now understand why people get repeated pneumonia which now I don’t. In fact, two years ago when I was told I have two years to live; I am better today. Today, she ended her youtube video with this question choking back tears, “What do you have to lose?” I rarely ever cry. yet, when I saw the ending, I busted into tears and couldn’t control it. Then I realized why. The answer is my life. Since I was 6 years old I have had multiple fibroid tumors on my lung with multiple lung resections left with scar tissue. She caught hers immediately with hemp oil and it even destroyed the scar tissue in 6 months. I am on oxygen 24/7. Why am I’m worried. They can’t throw me in jail. Then again, they can torture me in their medical facility with these horrific drugs. so, is it a felon alive or a dead law abiding citizen? I must choose.

Look at the head on this Hatch guy. He has Don’t Fuck with me written all over it. The only thing that brings enjoyment to a miserable persons life is making other people’s lives miserable. We will still be openly smoking pot long after the dust has settled in his life. Baby boomers will replace his generations ass.

Hatch is NOT a baby boomer, Hatch was born in 1934. Boomers were born from 1946-66, and don’t plan on dying in 10yrs. A little history. Boomers are the ones who started the push for legalization of marijuana since the 60’s. Read a little about the sixties and the seventies. They were also instrumental in the early stages in the development of the internet, and most were only in their 20s and 30s at the time.

I think his death will be the first since Jerry Falwell’s that I have openly applauded. They’re both such bastards, propagating sorrow on the planet. Why can’t assassins have more taste?

“to grow potent marijuana”…. as opposed to ditch weed? I thought that was the point about life in general. Survival of the fittest.

Fear not people, we have at most another 10 years before all of these baby boomers die.

My view point is that unless you witnessed the birth of internet you cannot be trusted. period.

Orrin Hatch is a dick with ears. I’m so glad he moved out of Pennsylvania. It’s just too bad all the arch-asshole prohibitionists in Pennsylvania didn’t follow him. This is typical of him. He’s the Strom Thurman of the federal prohibitionists. He’ll be getting pushed into vote in Congress in a wheelchair by his personal nurse just to vote against anything pro-cannabis. Hopefully, he hasn’t appropriated any more money for eradication. All he’s managed to do is see to it that people (Mexican cartels) growing small plantations on federal lands will be sure arm themselves more heavily. And, thanks to mainly Republicans, assault weapons will not be problem for them to get.

There’s only one nubbin in there that’s pro-cannabis, and that’s where Hatch says “potent marijuana.” Is Hatch developing an understanding between marijuana for medical and recreational purposes and industrial hemp, you know, which is low THC and basically worthless for getting stoned? If the hemp bill ever actually makes it for a vote, rest assured he’ll vote against it.

Orrin Hatch is to cannabis what Strom Thurman was to civil rights.
