The Young Turks: Kanye West’s ‘New Slaves’ Song About Private Prisons

POT TV – Popular internet news show The Young Turks discusses rapper Kanye West’s new song called “New Slaves”, which addresses the disproportionate numbers of black men in (private) prisons in the United States.

From The Young Turks on YouTube:

“After unveiling “New Slaves” on Friday night in “the most Kanye way possible,” Kanye West took to the Saturday Night Live stage and did it again, this time live and in the flesh. The rapper’s new album has been described as “dark”; on SNL, he yelled while dodging in and out of dark shadows (“Black Skinhead”), then delivered an equally intense rendition of “New Slaves” in front of a projection of his face in extreme close-up. “Dark” seems accurate so far.”*

Kanye West has a new song with a message about private prisons and the disproportionate numbers of black men inside them, as well as the punishments the have to face. Will he shine a light on the corrupt private prisons system? Ana Kasparian, John Iadarola (TYT University), and Cara Santa Maria discuss.
