Washington Marijuana Law Goes into Effect; Smokers Celebrate in Public

There wasn’t a police officer to be seen as crowds of people gathered under Seattle’s Space Needle early Thursday morning to light up and celebrate a new reality: Marijuana is legal under Washington state law.

Hundreds gathered at Seattle Center for a New Year’s Eve-style countdown to 12 a.m., when the legalization measure passed by voters last month took effect. When the clock struck, they cheered and sparked up in unison.

A few dozen people gathered on a sidewalk outside the north Seattle headquarters of the annual Hempfest celebration and did the same, offering joints to reporters and blowing smoke into television news cameras.

Washington and Colorado became the first states to vote to decriminalize and regulate the possession of an ounce or less of marijuana by adults over 21. Both measures call for setting up state licensing schemes for pot growers, processors and retail stores. Colorado’s law is set to take effect by Jan. 5.

“I feel like a kid in a candy store!” shouted Hempfest volunteer Darby Hageman. “It’s all becoming real now!”

Peace Bro. Wherever there are large crowds fueled on booze, there will be violence. It is a drug that is unpredictable unlike cannabis. The non violent recent events in Seattle were predictable, hence no police force required. No brainer.

Of all places B.C. should be looking to Washington State as an example to follow and then set the precedent for the rest of Canada. Jody should run for Premier of B.C. It is time for change.

The also penned ‘I’m gonna get high with a little help from my friends’. I don’t think they were singing about sucking dope out of a bottle. Harper the hypocrite, should try a toke with his beer while playing the Beatles music at parties. From what I heard it certainly wouldn’t hurt his musical abilities. It didn’t hurt many of the other musical greats either. In fact it helped their creative abilities as it does with ordinary people like me. An open mind is a virtue.

“There wasn’t a police officer to be seen as crowds of people gathered” – Interesting that no police present and the crowds were peaceful. If the same number of people were gathered and drinking, it is very possible that trouble would ensue(eg. celebrating after a national sports championship). Marijuana use does not cause violent behavior.

Marihuana has already been legal for one day and there is no anarchy or pandemonium anywhere, the federals want everyone to believe there will be total chaos, I can’t wait to get some hemp powder from Washington or Colorado, and I can’t wait to see the thousands of products that can be produced at lower cost, with hemp which is legendary for it’s durability, most importantly the people who need it for medical reasons won’t be persecuted and labeled felons for having a few plants.

The mythical snowball that gets bigger and bigger as it gains in size and momentum has just started at the top of the hill.

…Waiting at the bottom of the hill is a huge pile of cash, billions of dollars in fact from a pointless civil war, which will be blown into the air for the happy citizens and politicians to grab gleefully!!!

Soon some of the freedom fighters who have been jailed may be freed too.

    Free Marc Emery!
    Free the Worlds Citizens!

It’s not that I want to promote marihuana use or anything like that but in solidarity with the people of the States of Washington and Colorado, and also to congratulate and share with them the same joy, I urge readers of CC to also celebrate (I should say cerebrate)Monkey sees, monkey does and we all like it !XXXXXXOOOOOOOOOXXXXXXXXXXXX
