NDP Leader Jack Layton lost his battle with cancer today and will be sorely missed by everyone at Cannabis Culture. Jack was a tireless fighter for progressive causes and a hero to many in the marijuana community. Rest in peace Jack!
From the YouTube video: When the New Democratic Party wanted the cannabis culture’s vote in 2003, the party leader, Jack Layton went to Marc Emery’s home and endorsed the cannabis community.
“Our view is there should be rules around marijuana use, personal use, age, driving, trafficking, mass production and marketing,” he said.
And Layton dismissed critics who say the stance helps organized crime.
“When something is criminalized to the extent that marijuana is you have by definition created a context for organized crime,” he said.
