Cheech and Chong Star in Pot-Packed Episode of The Simpsons

A new and hilarious episode of The Simpsons stars an animated version of stoner icons Cheech and Chong, and is loaded with more reefer references than … well … a Cheech and Chong album.

Homer is shocked to find that Bart and Lisa have never heard of Cheech and Chong (“I’ve failed as a parent. I swore the day my son was born he would appreciate stoner comedy!”) and brings the family to see the pair perform live at the local Clamphitheater (don’t ask … just watch the episode).

The stoney duo, who apparently started their careers as weathermen in the Simpsons’ hometown of Springfield before becoming comedy legends, break up when Chong tires of their classic bits. Homer becomes the new Chong and the laughs and pot jokes go on for 20 minutes—and Mr. Burns gets high!

Season 22 Episode 16 – A Midsummer’s Nice Dream

Watch the episode above or here. If that doesn’t work, try it here or watch it in the US on Hulu.

Marijuana culture has seemingly become a favorite target of Simpsons writers. In another episode from 2002, Homer becomes a medical marijuana patient, and many other episodes poke fun at potheads with token toker Otto the bus driver. Remember Chief Wiggum singing Bob Marley’s “Jamming”?

Tommy Chong recently appeared at two LIVE fundraisers for former CC editor Dana Larsen’s BC NDP leadership campaign. Watch video of the fundraisers here and here.

tell that to anyone stuck in prison right now because they weren’t lucky enough to be cheech and chong when they got busted…..I got no problem laughing…..but those sterio-typical dumb stoner jokes are getting tired.

I can’t stand people who laugh all day at jokes on television, but then cannot laugh when the tables are turned.

    It’s called being a poor-sport.

    This is comedy. Lighten up.

“I wanna see a Simpsons episode where they educate people about the benefits of hemp paper vs. lumber…..or how about an episode about how cannabis can and does help patients w/cerebral palsy live a better quality of life.”

Yeah, that sounds really hilarious. You should send your script to FOX. I bet you have a huge comedy career ahead of you.

Are you fucking serious? It is the Simpson’s. You know, a COMEDY show. Do you even know what comedy is?

That’s where they make fun of things and people laugh, but it is always funnier when they make fun of someone else, isn’t it?

Tell me how funny it would be to have Cheech and Chong on and not make stoner jokes.

I couldn’t agree more. When are they gonna stop replaying the same offensive steriotypes and false propaganda…….I wanna see a Simpsons episode where they educate people about the benefits of hemp paper vs. lumber…..or how about an episode about how cannabis can and does help patients w/cerebral palsy live a better quality of life. WHEN are those episodes coming out…huh???

    I thought it was funny.

The show, from the brief part I saw anyway, did not tell the truth about the many benefits of pot but instead opened the show by telling the viewer than cannabis smoke will make you stupid… “it will influence you to put pieces of plastic in your mouth, you will make you confused and unable to articulate anything”… this is typical false propaganda which some cannabis users like. It’s like Half Baked: it is extremely slanderous and misleading about cannabis, but some people just like to see pot mentioned at all. So long as cannabis users promote reefer madness, ethics is not so likely to progress… someone might think, “what is cannabis?” & then turn on the Simposons & say, “oh, ok, I understand, it makes you stupid & unable to function properly… so, Dana is in favor of that stuff? He must be a stupid, confused hippie who puts pieces of plastic in his mouth & stares at his hand wondering where his keys are”. We should ‘wake up’ & smell the propaganda: simply because pot is mentioned, it doesn’t mean it is being mentioned truthfully or ethically.
-NatGeo did some anti-pot propaganda & NORML promoted it… the show started off falsely saying, “cannabis hijacks the brain, like a terrorist” but NORML was like, “whatever, pot was mentioned, that is cool”, foolishly/stupidly.

This crap piss-ripped on cannabis… that is horrible (I only watched the first minute, it is so bourgeois). It did the typical reefer-madness false propaganda about cannabis turning people stupid; simply because pot is mentioned does not mean it is good! It could have a bad effect: it would seem to clearly influence falsehoods about cannabis… when the jokes are at the expense of cannabis users & the glorious plant, it is reefer-madness, conservative-inspired, ignorant, stupid, misleading, Fox-funded nonsense meant to draw you in to watch the corporate ads & stop you finding out about the exploitation of workers, in part… laughter is part of a behavioral addiction being methodically created by a capitalist media monopoly called NewsCorp. It is worse than frivolous, it is pernicious (at least the first minute was slanderous escapism). The show might do some good, but there are better things to do!

This guy has an eye for correlations! I have to wait until after work to understand how a Simpsons episode with Cheech and Chong and pot references is related to Dana’s NDP run? Oh I really really can’t wait!

I’ll have to watch it sober like this genius.

The Simpsons have had many marijuana references over the years… there was an episode where Bart asks Marge if they can stay up late to watch the end of the 10 Commandments, ‘after all, it’s about the bible’ he says…Marge gives in and a while later loudly exclaims, ‘look at the time!!’ … screen fills with a digital clock at …. 4:20!

this ought to deliver Dana right into the driver’s seat of the province of British Columbia leadership
I wonder just how grossly he will lose by ?

The episode was ok, not hilariously funny…maybe it was because i’m outta herb at the moment. The old comedy bits are way out of date, but you still have to love C+C as they were the first comedians to widely represent our community. This being the second Simpsons episode to revolve around Cannabis, it goes to show you how mainstream and normal…our culture is.
