Tommy Chong to Host Fundraiser for BC NDP Leadership Candidate Dana Larsen

CANNABIS CULTURE – Vote Dana! Cannabis activist turned political candidate Dana Larsen has announced that legendary Canadian filmmaker Tommy Chong will perform at a fundraiser for Larsen’s BC NDP leadership campaign on MONDAY, MARCH 7 at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver.

An Intimate evening with Chong & Chong: The Tommy & Shelby Chong Fundraiser for the Dana Larsen Campaign starts at 7pm with a screening of the film a/k/a Tommy Chong, which documents Chong’s raid and arrest by the US DEA and his 9-month prison sentence for selling bongs and pipes on the Internet.

The film will be followed by a performance by Tommy and his wife Shelby, and the two will join Larsen after the show to answer questions to talk to the audience.

“I’m thrilled to have the support of legendary comedian Tommy Chong and his wife Shelby,” Larsen said. “Tommy has spent his life ridiculing the harmful folly of marijuana prohibition. I look forward to sharing a stage with Tommy and Shelby, and working with them to make the NDP the next government of British Columbia.”

Tickets for the event are on sale at Marc Emery’s Cannabis Culture Headquarters (307 West Hastings), The Vancouver Seed Bank (872 East Hastings), The Vancouver Medicinal Cannabis Dispensaries (880 East Hastings and 1182 Thurlow) and the TAGGS dispensary in Maple Ridge. Tickets purchased in advance are $42, or $50 at the door. Only 420 tickets will be sold, so get yours now!

The day after the Rio Theatre performance, on TUESDAY, MARCH 8, both Tommy Chong and Dana Larsen will appear in a LIVE online fundraiser, to be broadcast on Cannabis Culture. (Details to be announced soon.)

Larsen also announced that he has finalized and filed his nomination paperwork at the BC NDP headquarters, and is ready to challenge fellow New Democratic candidates for the leadership of the party and fight the longer battle to become Premier of British Columbia.

“I’ve made my campaign about ideas, and I am overwhelmed at the support I have received because of it.” Larsen said. “The membership of the NDP is yearning for a progressive voice that represents their interests. My campaign will continue to speak for the policies and priorities that resonate with all British Columbians.”

Tommy Chong, a resident of British Columbia, signed up for membership in the BC NDP and voiced his support for Larsen shortly after Larsen announced his candidacy in the leadership race. His campaign has also received the support of celebrity pot-advocate and pro wrestler Rob Van Dam.

If elected, Larsen has promised to end the war on marijuana in British Columbia by halting funding for pot-related police enforcement.

Larsen has also made a series of campaign promises in recent weeks, including plans to make the Vancouver SkyTrain free for all passengers, to put warning labels and tax sugar-filled beverages, to decriminalize and unionize Vancouver’s sex trade, and to eliminate the province’s financial deficit by reversing corporate tax cuts and taxing the super-rich.

My documentary film, The United States Government versus Thomas B. Kin Chong, “a/k/a Tommy Chong,” relaunched Tommy Chong failing comedy career — casting him as a drug war martyr and anti-hero– revitalized the Cheech and Chong brand and shined a light on America’s corrupt Drug War. It also resulted in Tommy Chong, et al, making A LOT of money.

I find it endlessly ironic that Tommy Chong thanked me for my efforts by instigating a bogus, painful and very expensive lawsuit, while doing everything in his power to prevent me from successfully launching and distributing the film during his malicious campaign to steal my creative rights out from under me.

In the end,Tommy Chong and his botox infused wife acted toward me like any Hollywood studio executive or Federal Government official might act while exploiting their power to steal someone’s property and ruin their life. And he did a pretty good job. I guess he’s had the best teachers…

This campaign is starting to remind me of the person running for school president promising chocolate milk in all of the drinking fountain’s.

Personally, I’m up to here with the continued promotion of the, “oh wow man I’m so stoned I can hardly move, dopey, half asleep, stupid stoner stereo-type, which Tommy Chong embodies. I’m not saying Tommy Chong is that in real life. I’m just trying to make the point that his image to many people invokes that image and stereo type.

So having said that I’m not convinced this association will do anything to realistically improve Dana’s political ambition’s.

    Best of luck to all.

have a common cause here. . . both are being unjustly persecuted (and prosecuted), for the heinous crime of Not Harming Anyone.

Tell me. . . why is it a crime to trade money for sex, but not a crime to trade alcohol for sex? Go to any “Singles Bar,” and you’ll see the Alcohol-for-Sex transaction taking place numerous times a day. . .

    It’s bullshit.

Actually you should check out Dana’s platform because you are wrong.

First, the sex trade was recently decriminalized by the courts in Ontario and this will likely follow in BC too. Dana has just called for allowing sex trade workers to form unions and co-ops to protect their own rights and safety.

Second, Dana has stridently called for marijuana to be legalized, taxed and regulated in BC. It’s in his policy and he talks about it all the time.

Third, Dana is former editor of Cannabis Culture magazine, founding member of the BC Marijuana Party, founder of the Vancouver Seed Bank, founder of the Vancouver Cannabis Dispensary and author of Hairy Pothead. So casting doubt on his commitment to marijuana legalization is pretty weak.

So…to recap: The former leader of the Marijuana Party promises to legalize hookers, not weed, and the cannibis culture rallies around him. I must be smoking the wrong shit.
